Our Summer Student program empowers you to focus on your passions; from designing hardware products, developing and improving manufacturing processes, implementing test systems, or designing and testing firmware or software, the work at Cochlear is technically challenging and incredibly rewarding.

As a Summer Student you will join our one of our Science, IT or Engineering streams. Our students are given an important project that will contribute to Cochlear's product development and give you real-life insight into working as a professional. You will have the opportunity to work alongside and collaborate with the best and brightest minds in the world as they mentor and support you to develop your skills and follow your passions.

Every year our Summer Students work on a variety of different projects that add real value to our R&D and Manufacturing efforts. Some examples are below:

  • Designing and developing new products or components
  • Contributing to product improvement projects
  • Building critical research enabling software solutions
  • Developing voice-controlled sound processor capabilities
  • Contributing to the design of analog and digital ASIC
  • Developing automated test solutions for a clinical mobile app
  • Evaluating and testing technologies critical to delivering a next-generation sound processor
  • Performing verification activities for product designs before they transition to manufacturing

To prepare you for a graduate career with Cochlear in 2023, we are offering paid placements in our Summer Student program from November 2021 to February 2022; based in our global HQ in Sydney.

Cochlear offer a highly competitive wage and the opportunity to learn and grow alongside a supportive community of innovators. If you are a penultimate year engineering/computer science student we encourage you to apply if:

  • You are studying Engineering, Science or IT related degree with majors related to software, electrical and mechanical disciplines: examples include Biomedical, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, Firmware, Systems and Material Science.
  • You are in your second-to-last year of study – finishing your final subjects in calendar year 2022.
  • You have achieved a credit average or better.
  • You are available to work full-time for 3 months from late November 2021 to mid-February 2022.
  • You can support yourself and find yourself accommodation (you will be paid above award).
  • You possess the right to work in Australia without sponsorship after graduation.
  • You are seriously considering starting full-time work as a graduate engineer with Cochlear in February 2023.

It is important our Summer Students are not intending on pursing further studies immediately after graduation as Cochlear aims to foster our summer students into industry ready engineers.
